In the follow up of the Nagoya Conference in October 2010, the the United Nations 65th General Assembly (UNGA) approved the creation of IPBES, Intergovernmental Science Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (ipBes) to analyse, share knowledge and report on the state, status and trends of biodiversity and ecosystems

AfriBes has for ambition to help the development of an IpBes

for Africa and, with the use of the new technologies of Information and communication, to allow:
  • A better use of knowledge and information by developing the spirit of collaboration and sharing;
  • Networking skills through new information and communication technologies;
  • The promotion of South-South cooperation and identify areas where the expertise should be strengthened.
